There's a couple of videos also on my YouTube channel, this first one for "Terminal 1" involved filming over am enjoyable but freezing cold weekend in Basel.....amazing work from Danilo Di Prizio, who filmed and conceived the while thing.



Petulia Mattioli did a great job on the video for Punto "Di Vista Differente", thankfully it didn't involve me getting frozen again...
Petulia has also designed a lot album covers including quite a few I've been involved in: Obake, Metallic Taste of Blood and Guadi's most recent "Magnetic"

Neve Di Primavera

Alessandro Pedretti (Endless Tapes, Sdang!) and I have constructed a piece of music to accompany, "La Memoria Delle Pietre" a white marble sculpture by Milena Berta.

This piece has it's inauguration on the 19th May, in the town of Valle Camonica, in Italy.

The music takes it's inspiration from the many caves in the surrounding area, I contribute fretless bass with some suitably cavernous reverberations and the percussive elements are made from audio samples of local stones and naturally occurring minerals found in the vicinity.

I'll post a few more details about the music soon, but for now please see the link below (in Italian)

Endless Tapes - The First Shows.

Last month saw my collaborative project Endless Tapes play live for the first time.

Alessandro Pedretti and myself brought in two other musicians to help us bring the music from a purely studio creation to something living, breathing and most importantly, capable of evolution.

We were very happy to have the input of Corrado Saija and Nicola Panteghini (keyboards and guitar respectively) who did a great job making sense of what we gave them to work with, helping us to make the live concerts, not simply a static rendition of previously recorded music, but an interacting group entity,  enabling us all to explore the tunes, stretch out, improvise and create something with the possibility to be spontaneously built on from performance to performance, which is exactly what I'd hoped to achieve with the Endless Tapes material.

Although an ideal warm up and road test, our short series of gigs was over far too soon.

Anyone familiar with the track Terminal 2 from the Endless Tapes debut EP will be able to compare the way the material expanded in a live environment by listening to this extended live version, a desk recording, on my Soundcloud page:

Endless Tapes Live in Italy in February.

Alessandro Pedretti and myself will be performing our Endless Tapes material live at three dates in Italy next month.

Helping us to bring the music to life will be guitarist Nicola Panteghini (who also contributed guitar to the debut EP) and keyboard player Corrado Saija.

As well as playing material from the EP (available here) we're also "road testing" as yet unheard material from the full length Endless Tapes album which should see a release later this year.

Pedretti and I are thinking of these shows as "warm-up" dates which will enable us to test, evolve and refine the material for future live performances.

 Danilo DiPrizio will be adding some of his amazing visuals.

Endless Tapes EP

Sometime ago, I connected with Brescia based drummer/multi instrumentalist Alessandro "Petrol" Pedretti, whose rhythmically interesting, kaleidoscopic and minimalistic ideas immediately appealed to me, and who was up for helping me develop some of my own musically compatible sketches. 
Working on the material together at various times has also been a great opportunity for me to do a lot of things that either I don't do very often, or sometimes don't do at all, for instance, ebow, slide/feedback style noise guitar, various electronics as well as programming, and also to explore some of the depths of my "further out" FX  (like the Ravish Sitar and my very under-used VB-99 for example). 
I am also pretty sure I've ended up playing every bass I have in my collection at some point, from fretless and upright to my foam muted vintage Ovation Magnum II .- plenty of colours.

Our remote compositions were shaped, honed, edited and mixed with sessions together late last year at Taverna Studios in Brescia, Italy with the assistance of engineer Domenico Vigliotti, and the final results mastered by a friend of mine, Brighton based producer/mixer Paul Mex.

Pedretti and I settled on the name "Endless Tapes" to work under, which I feel is appropriate for the simple reason that, although having of course a linear flow, the music contains a lot of cyclic, sometimes odd meter, circular elements, and in a lot of cases I can imagine the compositions might have resolved in a completely different way to how they have ended up. There's a certain geometric logic to some things, but the mathematical influences are not overiding or distracting in any way, and for me the music retains its emotional elements and also has a great deal of warmth.

I hope listeners will find Endless Tapes fluid, evolving, transparent, spacious, sonically adventurous, atmospheric, hypnotic and highly engaging, reflecting the natural flow that bought it all forth.

Our first release, "Endless Tapes EP" consisting of four tracks, will be available on CD and also a limited edition cassette.

Carl Glover from Aleph has designed a very fitting CD cover....see above, and Petulia Mattioli has made a video for one of the tracks, which I'll be sharing very soon.

I was for many years, a major listener of music on cassette, only recently exchanging the tape deck in my car for an ipod based system. There's something about the inability to instantly skip from one track to the next (I never had one of those tape decks that found the silence between tracks) that often led me to persevere with some tracks I didn't instantly connect with, which is no bad thing.

Anyway, cassette actually seems like an appropriate format for Endless Tapes, as perhaps the music is really best listened to whilst watching those little wheels go round and round.......
