A Carol for the Boy
I was always told the secret to commercial success in the music biz was to do a Christmas (or maybe a football) song....not sure about that but I hope this gets you in the right mood for the season...wherever you are.
A Christmas song from Ukraine, performed by "Kalyna" - Ukrainian Folk Ensemble - which also features Inna Kovtun on vocals. Jon Durant has crafted the musical accompaniment and I am on fretless bass....

Infinite Regress
I am duty bound to say a word or two about the new album, and I’ll start with admitting that it had been finished, and left unreleased, for quite some time. I had the release schedule all planned when it became necessary to hold it back for some reason or other, I think it may have been an O.R.k. album and tour needing priority, and shortly after there was another Burnt Belief album, then the pressures of life and then, I am not too sure, but one thing after another and it slipped off my radar until eventually I realised it’d been well and truly shelved.
So, finally there’s been a window where I’ve been able to give it my attention again, and I think the pause has been a blessing of sorts as I do feel the album is more relevant, and will hopefully resonate better with the outside world, at this time than it would have done before.
Despite the differing subject matter of the songs, there’s a unifying sense of confusion, uncertainty and anxiety that runs through the themes in the lyrical content, and as time has passed, these feelings seemed to have amplified, not just in my own mind, but in the world around all of us. The feeling that lots of things have been getting, not just a bit worse, but significantly so.
I am pretty sure that we still have some way to go, unfortunately, before things (might) get any better.
I am generally reluctant to say too much about specific ideas behind albums I am involved in, as I believe allowing the listener to find their own meaning is much more important, but I had wanted the album overall to have a certain “grainy” texture, a nocturnal, introspective atmosphere and to convey a general sense of misplaced and confused nostalgia, a bit like the feeling you might have whilst looking at a slightly blurred old photograph of something or someone from your past, but which doesn’t quite match your own memories. I think RJ has really bought these qualities to the fore with his lyrical contributions, and also his well considered guitar parts.
So, Infinite Regress in the Mirror City, a hauntologial landscape where there are no definite answers at the end of any promised rainbows. Uncertainty is the only certainty and errors, vagueness and all the shades of grey areas are to be explored much more thoroughly than the black and white.
Digital release across all the other platforms via Cargo Records.

Lastly, I see Japanese metal band, “Defiled”, who probably couldn’t be much further musically speaking, have also named their upcoming album “Infinite Regress” and it’s due for release on the very same day as my album,….a synchronicity worth celebrating I feel, and completely in keeping somehow with the spirit behind this album.

"Infinite Regress" solo material January 2020
Above is the cover image for my forthcoming album "Infinite Regress" due for release in January 2020. Cover Image by Alistair @ Human Eye Studio
Featuring ten songs with a definite nocturnal ambience, I also had the assistance of my old buddy RJ Peck on vocals and guitar (see also Mesh EP)
There's a variety of concerns addressed in the lyrical content: urban drudgery, technological distraction and the inaccuracies of both personal and collective memories, communal amnesia as nostalgia.
Pre-Orders for physical CD's can be found on the following link: https://burningshed.com/colin-edwin_infinite-regress_cd

Edwin/Durant/Kovtun
After struggling with what to call ourselves, (EDK being a bit too similar to O.R.k perhaps)
my full-length collaborative album with Jon Durant and Inna Kovtun is being lined up for an Autumn release (CD and digital) and will simply be called "Colin Edwin, Jon Durant, Inna Kovtun"
See previous post here.
Above is the cover image design by Radoslav Chrzan. It should be fairly obvious the main image represents a bridge. It seemed apt, as bridges have followed us wherever we go. Inna's home city, Kiev is bisected by the Dnieper river and features a number of impressive bridges. Jon spends a good deal of time in Portland on the West Coast of the U.S.A. which has many bridges, although he's forever photographing the same one!
We mixed the album all together at Grand Cru Studios in London, on a boat in St. Katherine's Dock, right next to London Bridge.
More information, audio samples, pre-order links etc when the time comes.......

Neve Di Primavera
Alessandro Pedretti (Endless Tapes, Sdang!) and I have constructed a piece of music to accompany, "La Memoria Delle Pietre" a white marble sculpture by Milena Berta.
This piece has it's inauguration on the 19th May, in the town of Valle Camonica, in Italy.
The music takes it's inspiration from the many caves in the surrounding area, I contribute fretless bass with some suitably cavernous reverberations and the percussive elements are made from audio samples of local stones and naturally occurring minerals found in the vicinity.
I'll post a few more details about the music soon, but for now please see the link below (in Italian)

New Material with Inna Kovtun and Jon Durant.
The turmoil that engulfed Ukraine in late 2014 pretty much put a stop to the activities I had been planning with Kiev based vocal duo Astarta (see previous blog posts here and here) . We just about managed to release our album through Comp Music eventually, but any live performances and further recording was put on hold indefinitely.
I am happy to say that, after a pause of about 18 months, I managed to reconnect with the marvellous vocalist Inna Kovtun, and with the addition of Jon Durant, my partner in Burnt Belief , who also made a lot of fantastic contributions to the Astarta/Edwin album as well as joining us for the live shows we did manage, late 2018 saw us all together for the closing stages of mixing a full new albums worth of material.
As before, the new tracks are built around a set of Slavic folk songs, but extensively reworked and re-imagined by Jon and myself.
Initially working from bare vocals upwards, Inna in turn created fresh vocal arrangements with new harmonies around our newly developed musical backing.
After the mostly remote recording process, Jon, Inna and myself were able to meet up in London for the final mixing sessions on the marvellous Grand Cru Studios in the picturesque setting of St. Katherine's Dock in London.
We've been lucky enough to also have some rhythmic input from the Twinscapes powerhouse Roberto Gualdi on drums.
I am really looking forward to releasing the results of our work together, no firm plans yet, but something else to watch out for later in 2019......hopefully before too long...

O.R.k. - "Ramagehead" Pre-Orders
CD version also comes with a fold-out poster. (not shown)
Crystal Vinyl.
Fantastic cover art by Adam Jones and a great design by Denis Rodier.
A lot of thought, care and attention always goes into album design, this was no exception.
I am still of the opinion it makes for a much better and enhanced listening experience, as well as giving the listener a deeper appreciation of the artist's intentions.
