Recent Guest Recordings.
A couple of recent things, I always enjoy finding different contexts to play bass in and two things I've been involved recently couldn't be more different, but linked by intensity and individuality, and perhaps a few shared influences.
Firstly, I am playing mainly fretless bass (….a little upright too) on Tim Bowness's forthcoming album 'Abandonded Dancehall Dreams'.
Some of these tracks will also form part of the live repertoire for the Henry Fool/ Bowness dates this coming summer, which I am very much looking forward to.
Tim's album is coming out next month in a few different formats (coloured vinyl, CD etc) and the usual pre-orders are happening here:
Secondly, equally intense but in a completely different way, below is another track I have completed for Matthew Richard's "Dancing for Architecture" project:
Best,
Colin

The Twinscapes album is out now, from all the usual outlets and of course Burning Shed and the Rarenoise store.
Please check shipping dates, as the vinyl is scheduled to go out after the CD version, due to a longer manufacturing time.
You can now hear two complete tracks from the album streaming from the Rarenoise Jukebox here:

or following this link: https://www.rarenoiserecords.com/jukebox/twinscapes/twinscapes/
See also my previous Blogs here and here.

See above, Lorenzo Feliciati and I will be at the London Bass Guitar Show on Saturday March 1st, performing a set and then talking about our approach to playing together.

Twinscapes Preview and Cover Image
The Twinscapes album, a joint effort between myself and Italian bassist and composer Lorenzo Feliciati is something I've been working on throughout this year, and I am pleased to say it's now finally mixed, mastered and at the manufacturing stage. The release date is set for mid February 2014 through Rarenoise on CD, Vinyl and various digital formats.
It's been a really inspiring, continually surprising and also enjoyable process working on the album, not least because the two bass format has certainly made me re-evaluate and re-think some aspects of my own approach to playing, and also enabled me to explore some of the sonic possibilities of processing the bass with various effects that I usually can't find a context for.
Additionally, Lorenzo and I have been able to expand the album's sound with input from some amazing guest musicians, who have each added their own very special performances.
Nils Petter Molvaer, with some of his absolutely transcendent and instantly recognizable trumpet playing.
Drummer Roberto Gualdi, (also of PFM) has played two powerful and intense performances.
Once described as the "Van Gogh of the Saxophone", David Jackson (of the legendary Van Der Graaf Generator) contributes some magnificently spirited saxophone.
Andi Pupato, is perhaps best known as a former member of the intense "Zen-funk" group Nik Bartch's Ronin, although I also knew his work with Slow Electric and guitarist Robert Jurjendal, plays an array of percussion and has also added some unique sonic elements.
The album has been mixed by bassist/producer Bill Laswell, of whose playing and musical approach I have been a longterm admirer.
The album cover image above uses a photo taken by yours truly, utilising Redscale film and my trusty Fisheye2 camera.
I am pretty sure I took this in Albuquerque, New Mexico, whilst on tour a few years ago. I took a few rolls of film whilst wandering around, and I found it to have plenty of interesting urban geometry.
There is of course some stunning scenery in New Mexico, but I'll save that for another blog...

Design is by Stefano Fratus.
In order to hear some of the sounds, there is now a Twinscapes album preview edit on the Rarenoise Jukebox:
…and not forgetting, a very short youtube trailer over on my channel:
I'll be posting up pre-order information, track listing, etc in the near future.

Ex-Wise Heads Live in Tallinn
Just to mention that Ex-Wise Heads, (also featuring yours truly on bass of course), will be replacing Slow Electric for the previously mentioned live show at the Rock Cafe, in Tallinn, Estonia in October 7th, next weekend in fact.
Ticket and venue info can be found by clicking here
Also, I'm happy to say, I am contributing to the next Slow Electric album, which is currently a work in progress, so all being well, there will be future performances and new material too....in the meantime Geoff Leigh and I are very much looking forward to our first show in Estonia.
On the subject of Ex-Wise Heads live, we will also be playing at the Tonefloat Records evening at the Paradox in Tilburg, Holland on Sunday November 4th, you can get tickets direct from the Tonefloat store, or from the venue here
For anyone unfamiliar, the Ex-Wise Heads album Celestial Disclosure came out on vinyl through Tonefloat a little while back, and was subsequently re-issued on CD in a very nicely packaged Japanese style vinyl CD sleeve, and with a bonus track too. The album is currently available from burning shed.
You can read a couple of reviews of "Celestial Disclosure" here and here.
Best,
Colin
